Put it in drive.

We bought an RV in February 2023, hit the road two days later, and haven't looked back since.

From the beaches of Florida to the mountains of California, we've explored 16 national parks and counting. Somewhere along the way, this stopped being just a job that happened to move around and turned into an actual way of life: building a career, keeping our relationship and friendships alive, chasing the goals we set for ourselves, and figuring out how to organize a full life (and two dogs) into 200 square feet, all at the same time.

Now we want to share our experiences, recommendations, and lessons learned with people like you: the dreamers, the do-ers, and the dwellers.

Whether you're curious about RV life, planning your next national park adventure, or just want to follow along on our journey, welcome to Sunset Dwellers. We're so happy to have ya!

Dream, then do.

Hi there! We're Kyle and Melanie, and we're building a career, a home, and a full life, all at once, from the seat of our RV named Mac. (alongside our pups, Mick & Dabs of course.)

Melanie had always dreamed of van life. She actually saved the @sunsetdwellers handles back in 2018, aspirationally. But when we got married in 2022, we never imagined this would be our life. We had just bought a house in New Orleans, ready to settle down, except Kyle was miserable at his job, so he did what any good, burnt-out employee does and turned on the "open to work" feature on his LinkedIn.

A couple of months later, he got a message about a traveling position in construction, the kind of job that would have us on the road building projects across the country instead of clocking in at the same office every day. Melanie works remotely, so we looked at each other and thought, why not?
